Exceptional ten-shot group shot at 200 yards using SPG All-Purpose Cast Bullet Lubricant. Rifle was a .40-65 Winchester High Wall, Douglas 1-16 twist barrel, Brooks 410-grain bullet cast 1-20, sized to .408, .030 Walters Wad, 58 grains of Swiss 1 1/2Fg powder and Remington 2 ½ primers.
Ammunition was fixed and blow tube was used between shots. The rifle was shot from benchrest using a 10X Lyman Targetspot scope. No cleaning between shots. Target scores 249-9C.
Accurate shooting with black powder depend greatly upon a bullet lubricant’s ability to keep fouling soft between shots. SPG Lubricant does exactly that.
Instructions for Melting and Storage of SPG Bullet Lube
SPG Lube is available in 1/2#. 1#, 1-1/2#, and 3# pound bricks, suitable for pan lubing or melting in a double boiler. SPG lube can be poured directly into your lubri-sizer or bullets may be dipped directly in the hot lube. The lube must be allowed to set up completely, before you use it. These bricks are sealed in plastic and are shipped in a heavy cardboard box.
We recommend that the bulk lube be stored in an airtight container, such as a Ziploc bag. A clean jam or jelly jar works very well for melting the lube in a water bath. The jar can also be used for storage after the lube is melted. SPG Lube can be heated and melted indefinitely, as long as a double boiler is used. We DO NOT recommend direct heat or microwave for melting the lube.
